Affordable Hotel in Malate: Gran Prix Hotel Manila

Affordable Hotel in Malate: Gran Prix Hotel Manila

Malate Manila is famous for bars, clubs, in short nightlife in Manila. Back in college, we used to go to Malate after school to have a late snack or early dinner in one of our favorite "tambayan" restaurant - Country Style. I remember sharing food with my college friends just so we can save money that time, it was such a fun memory college days. We used to play billiards in Marlons along Adriatico street right after we had a late snack or early dinner. Such a fun memories! But Malate has changed a lot, there are still lots of hotels, establishments, bars, and clubs but not the kind of Malate vibe that we used to have 10-12 years ago.

3 years ago, Grand Prix Hotel expanded and opened a new branch here in Mabini street Ermita Manila. Just beside the old Citystate Tower Hotel and just a few minutes walk from Robinsons Mall Malate. The hotel offers affordable hotel rooms for 2 persons to a family of 4.

Getting there via commute:

- From Manila airport, just take a cab, UBER or GRAB.
- You may also commute via jeepney from Manila airport, just ride a jeepney going to Baclaran then drop off to Aristocrat restaurant in Roxas Blvd, ride a jeepney going to Taft/Pedro Gil/Divisoria and it will pass thru Ermita street.

Room price starts from 1,100 PHP to 2,500 / 22.44 USD to 51 USD per night good for 2 pax per room. All rooms have cold a/c, clean rooms, comfy bed, white bed linen, some rooms has a bathtub as well.

Just beside the hotel you will see Tesoro Museum and I really had to stop and take a photo with this statue. FYI, my kid take this photo! Cool eh?

One of the main attraction here in Manila is the National Museum of the Philippines. If you are an art and history lover like me, you will surely have a great time exploring the 4-floor museum for free. Did I just say FREE? Yup! There is no entrance fee at the museum and they are open from Tuesday to Sunday. Closed on Monday and holidays.

Getting to National Museum:

- From Taft Manila just ride a jeepney going to Divisoria/Sta. Cruz/Quiapo. Drop off to Santa Isabel or Ayala Blvd and cross the street. Walkabout few meters and you will see this huge White American style building.

Going around Manila is easy breezy, mind you that Manila is traffic every day except holidays so be mindful with your time schedules on going around the Metro Manila but the city has so much to offer and so much history.

December Staycation in Armada Hotel Manila

December Staycation in Armada Hotel Manila

The good thing about living and staying in Manila hotels is that you have an easy access and very neat to most Manila tourists spots. You also have various options to the most affordable hostel to lavish hotels in the metro. Another good and affordable hotel in Manila is Armada Hotel, located along Mabini and just before Quirino Ave, Manila.

About 3mins away from Malate Church and Rajah Sulayman in Roxas Macapagal.

Getting to the hotel from Ninoy Aquino International Airport (Manila Airport):

- Again I suggest riding an UBER if you have luggage with you but if you are a backpacker no fret you can commute via jeepney and UV Express.
- If you want to save a little money, you may ride a jeep from Manila airport going to Baclaran then ride a VAN going to Lawton and drop off to Aristocrat Macapagal Blvd. walk towards Malate Church and ride a jeepney going to Quirino/Mabini, from the church about 3 mins ride (without traffic) you will be at the hotel.

Room price starts from 2,500 PHP to 6,500 PHP / 51 USD to 132 USD depending on the month/season and room type.

My kid and I can't decide what room type and bed preference should we choose. Because it's only me and my kid who will stay at the hotel, I would choose 1 queen bed, but because staying in a hotel with a very hyperactive kid we need to have a bit larger room and 2 bed - why? So, she can jump over from one bed to another. Oh, kids! Lol.

Anything to make my kid happy, I will give it to her as long as I can provide. So, we ended up choosing the room with 2 single bed.

All room type has a window view, very comfy bed, clean bathroom with complete toiletries, mini bar, and large LED tv.

If you want to eat outside the hotel, though they have an in-house restaurant, you can go nearby fast food restaurants like Chowking and Aristocrat.

Via Commute:

- Just ride a jeepney going to Pedro Gil/Taft and 3 mins ride you will Chowking and Aristocrat which is adjacent to each other. Beside Chowking is Malate Church - also one of the popular wedding venue for Filipino couples.

Along Malate Church and Rajah Sulayman Fountain, there are lots of horse carriage that you may try to ride, 100 PHP / 2.00 USD for a 30-minute ride. From Malate Church, you can walk along Remedios, Nakpil and Adriatico if you want to try other International Restaurants, Pubs, Disco and local Filipino restaurants.

You will not just enjoy your stay at the hotel but you can also do photo walk along Roxas Blvd and watch the famous Manila sunset.

Hotel Review: White Knight Hotel in Intramuros Manila

Hotel Review: White Knight Hotel in Intramuros Manila

If you are a traveler and on a quick layover to Manila or perhaps spending a few days in the busy city of Manila you might wanna check on White Knight Hotel. Located in Intramuros Manila beside San Agustin Church and just right after the famous Barbaras Restaurant and Casa Manila Patio.

Intramuros is one of the oldest parts of Manila where it stands and witnessed the chaotic event during World War II. It is also one of the few places here in the Philippines that preserved the Spanish Colonial look of the structures and buildings. You don't have to go all the way to Vigan and Bataan just to see and have a photo of these old buildings and houses.

Getting to the hotel from Manila Airport:

- I strongly suggest taking UBER from the airport going to the hotel, it's cheaper and efficient.
- Cab/Uber fare will depend on the traffic situation in Manila.
- From Ninoy Aquino International Aiport Terminal fare will cost around 200 PHP to 250 PHP / 4.00 USD to 5.10 USD. However, it can go much higher if traffic is really bad/raining/or less UBER driver are driving around Manila.

You might be confused with the location because the first establishment that you will see when you enter the hotel vicinity is either Barbaras Restuarant or Casa Manila Museum.

Upon entering the hotel, you will enter the hotel's in-house restaurant that serves Western and Filipino cuisine. A bit pricey but you have other options when you want to eat out. You may try dining at Barbaras Restaurant just right outside the hotel.

Deluxe Queen Room is equipped with full queen bed, ensuite bathroom with bathtub and complete toiletries, small tv, table and chair, window seating area, and a/c. The hotel doesn't have any elevator/lift which is a downside for me especially if you are traveling with seniors this will be difficult for them to climb up the stairs. However, I talked to one of their staff and if they have a guest who is in a wheelchair or needs assistance, all staff are willing to help and carry what they need to.

Room price starts from 2,000 PHP to 3,000 PHP / 40.81 USD to 61.22 USD.

I love having breakfast or dinner outside the restaurant so having a hotel al fresco is a plus for me. It's also a good place for having a date night with your partner, right?

This rustic and old feel of Intramuros is what I love most.

Outside the hotel is a perfect place your #ootd and IG photo, lol. I love taking door pictures. Beside the hotel is the San Agustin Church. One of the famous wedding church venue and one of the oldest church in the Philippines.

If you head to Manila or just want to try an old Spanish feel hotel - book a night or two at the White Knight Hotel and enjoy the old feel vibe of the place.

Manila Staycation X Cabin Zero

Manila Staycation X Cabin Zero

Recently, I had the worst days of my life. Being a mom and raising your kid by your own is not that easy and knowing that I have to raise my kid on my own from now on is really terrifying and it breaks my heart. Life is never easy, I know that but I could not imagine that I have to experience the worst from my kids dad. It was such an emotional draining weeks of my life but life goes on and I should be brave and be strong for my kid.

I had to get out of my house and be somewhere else just so I can clear my mind and the best way to do it with my kid is to have a staycation. One of the newest and nearest hotels in Manila airport is Golden Phoenix Hotel Manila, located in Pasay City - The Entertainment City of the Philippines because all of the BIG Casino and Hotels in Manila are all here.

Golden Phoenix Hotel offers affordable hotel rooms from 3,000 PHP / 61 USD to 5,000 PHP / 102 USD. My kid and I stayed in their Deluxe Twin Room with 2 double bed, bedside lamp, coffee table, LED TV, coffee and tea maker, cabinet, en-suite bathroom with complete toiletries.

The hotel has 100+ room from 2nd to 7th floor and from 7th to 15th floor are condominium occupants and owners. All share 1 adult pool and 1 kiddie pool which is not good! The pool is too small and they don't provide towels! Before going to the pool area, I called the front desk and asked if there will be towel provided at the pool area and she said yes so we went to the pool area and to my surprise there were no towels and the pool staff told me that I should get towel from my room because they do not provide any. Now, that is really misleading! I hate it and I get mad that moment but I had to forget it and let it pass so my kid could enjoy our staycation.

Next time, please do not give wrong info to your hotel guest!

What I like about the hotel:

- Comfy bed
- Spacious room
- Has a pool
- Close to Mall of Asia (walking distance)
- Close to the church (walking distance)

What I don't like about the hotel:

- No Hairdryer
- Shampoo and Bath Liquid Soap is on a dispenser (same as the gym provides)
- No towel provided at the pool area
- Not enough couch at the lobby area
- Going to your room will be like a maze!
- Too many lifts that you get confused because some of it is for tenants of the hotel

One of my dilemma when going on s staycation with my kid is bringing multiple bags, one for me and one for my kid but good thing that I have a Cabin Zero 44-L Military Backpack and all my stuff during my quick staycation together with my lovely kid all fit it. Also, my gorilla pod and SLR are inside my backpack so no more bringing another camera bag for it which is very convenient and handy.

To order your own Cabin Zero Bag visit www.cabinzero.com

Will I go back to this hotel? I'm not sure!
Will I recommend this to friends and family? Maybe
Value for Money? Fairly ok!

Hotel Review: Belmont Hotel Manila

Hotel Review: Belmont Hotel Manila

Belmont Hotel celebrated their 1st anniversary in the hotel business last October 2016. Belmont Hotel is a 4-star hotel situated across the Ninoy Aquino Internation Airport Terminal 3 (NAIA3) The hotel is perfect for travelers, on business trips or layovers in Manila because of its prime location. Resorts World is just walking distance and the best place to dine, shop and even watch a movie or play with your family, friends or partner.

The hotel has its own cafe/restaurant that can accommodate guests for their buffet breakfast, a la carte lunch and monthly themed buffet dinner. Cafe Belmont offers Filipino and International Cuisine.

We had a little concern at their cafe during my 2nd night stay together with the other TBEX (Travel Bloggers Exchange) participants, it was dinner time and we ordered food but it was served after 1.5 hours of waiting, we understand that during that time the hotel and cafe are full packed but 1,5 hours is not normal and not right so some from our group went to Mcdonalds instead. We're able to talk to the manager and he apologized for what happened. So all hope this won't happen again.

Superior Twin Room costs around 4,000 PHP / 87 USD per night, good for 2 pax with buffet breakfast. The room is equipped with room key card access, toilet and bath with complete toiletries, coffee, and tea maker, bathrobe, ironing, dresser, hair blower, office desk, NDD/IDD capable telephone, slippers, bedside lamp and sitting chair perfect for having morning coffee/tea while enjoying the view of NAIA where my kid enjoyed it a lot - she even stayed at the window and just stares at the plane for several minutes.

It was my third time to stay here in Belmont and I am still wanting to go back soon! Loved their super comfy bed and cold a/c.

The pool is located on the 11th floor of the hotel with 360 degrees view of the airport area. With outdoor jacuzzi and pool surrounded by sun beds and outdoor tables and chairs perfect for a group of friends who wants to chill out, enjoy the sun and even have a beer at night till 11pm. The bar is open till 2am.

Belmont is a kid-friendly hotel which is a PLUS for me. My kid loves staying in hotels especially with a pool. As long as my kid enjoyed her staycation and wanting to go back at the hotel - then I'll give it a 4/5 rate.
