Knowing Yogyakarta Indonesia

Most Filipino travelers would go to nearby countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Macau (Visa free country) but very few would go to Indonesia. Most Filipinos would only know Bali and Jakarta but little did we know that Indonesia has so much to offer for all types of travelers.
In July 2016, I got invited by the Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia together with 50+ other South East Asian bloggers and influencers to travel around Indonesia for 12 days. I extended my trip to Jakarta for 3 days and was not able to do so much because of the traffic jam. Few from our batch went to Yogyakarta and seeing their amazing photos made me want and eager to go back to Indonesia and visit Yogyakarta.
Luckily Last January 2018, I was able to go back in Indonesia, had a 4-day trip to Jakarta with AirAsia and finally extended my trip for another 4 days just to see the wonders of Yogyakarta. I always wanted to visit temples and palaces in this region and finally, I did. Let me share you where we s…

Affordable hotel in Makati: Franchise One Hotel

People think that staying in a hotel in Makati is expensive but there are a lot of affordable hotels around Makati. Makati is about 30-minutes away from Manila Airport (without traffic) and most of the luxury brands can be found here in this city. You may go to Greenbelt and Glorietta for your shopping needs and watch a movie or just enjoy the park at Greenbelt Mall.

For 1,500 PHP to 2,500 PHP / 30 USD to 51 USD you can book ou hotel room here at Franchise One Hotel.

Getting to the hotel from Manila Airport:

- Take ordinary cab/ UBER / Grab
- Cheaper commute - ride any jeepney going to Baclaran, drop off to Baclaran and ride another jeepney going to MRT Taft. Take MRT and drop off to Magallanes MRT station. Ride jeepney going to Chino Roces/Don Bosco/Makati Square.
- From Magallanes MRT Station, it's about 5mins away (no traffic).

Jeepney Fare: 7PHP / .14USDMRT Fare: 15PHP / .30 USD

The hotel has an in-house restaurant which offers good and affordable meals. Their Alfredo Pasta is less than 200 PHP / 4 USD only! Their Fish fillet with sauce and Chopseuy (Mixed Veggies) are all good!

We stayed at Herald Suites Hotel last New Year's Eve and I can't afford to spend too much on hotel food there and luckily I found this hotel which is just beside our hotel and ended up buying our food here. For 600 PHP / 12 USD I was able to buy 3 meals that 4 people shared.

Their breakfast meal are also affordable for less than 150 PHP / 3 USD you have a choice of beef, Tocino (sweetened pork) with rice and egg.

Their standard room looks like a condo which is just right space for 2 pax. Also, the hotel doesn't have an elevator so you have to climb up the stairs all the way to your room and the hotel has 5 floors so this will be a good exercise for you, lol.

The room has cold split type a/c, en-suite bathroom with hot and cold shower and bidet, queen size bed, couch and LED cable TV. It also has a window view but all rooms are non-smoking so if you are s smoking dude you have to go out of the hotel to smoke.

Just right across the hotel is an affordable and old shopping mall - Makati Square. Most stalls are selling cellphone accessories and a lot of thrift shop is in this mall. I was able to buy 3 pairs of swimwear, 1 for me and 2 for my kid. Each pair is only 120 PHP / 2.44 USD.

  1. I guess this type of hotel would be very good for emergencies when you are caught in Makati in a carmageddon situation. It would also be good for those who are attending a convention in Makati and is short on accommodation funds. By the way, do the rooms have free WiFi?

  9. Seems like a decent hotel for its price. I would consider it if I get stuck in Makati and if Uber/Grab surge prices are unreasonable :D

  14. With no lift, it makes it difficult for people with large suitcase to move around. I guess this is really more suitable for backpackers. I like how the food is really affordable thou!

Beach-Lovin: La Thalia Beach Resort

It's Summer time now! And the best place to treat yourself from our hectic work by going to the beach - a quiet place, far from the hustling and bustling city,  and just have a total relaxation at the ocean. It's been a while since I had a visit to the beach and I had such a great time spending my 2 days at the La Thalia Beach Resort in Bauan Batangas. Batangas is a 2-hour drive from Manila and Bauan Batangas has white beach sand. La Thalia is a half hectare property that has a great beach front andrelaxing rooms - couple room & barkada room/family room, Pavillion that can accommodate 100 pax, restaurant, basketball court, table tennis, and water sports such as Jetski, Paddle Boat, Kayak and they also offer island tour where you and your group can have fish feeding and snorkeling at the same time.
